At Macleans War-Gaming Club, you can command grand armies across the ages, from the bayonets of Napoleon’s battalions, the Blitzkrieg of World War II, and the helicopter gunships of modern warfare. Our tables are filled with meticulously planned and orchestrated battles, recreating monumental battles like Bunker Hill, Waterloo, or Barbarossa as well as legendary fictional battles such as the Siege of Terra, The War for the Allpoints, or the Battle of the Pelennor Fields.

Members battle on a custom terrain table with Warhammer miniatures.

Students can choose from a wide range of activities within the club. There are strategy games, including dice-based options such as Flames of War (WW2), Blackpowder (Ancient and Napoleonic eras), Warhammer, and Lord of the Rings. Another aspect students can participate in is modelling, which includes painting miniatures, building terrain, and bringing grey figures to life. Alternatively, if luck-based games aren’t quite your cup of tea, we also play Diplomacy, a game focused entirely on pure strategy and predicting human behaviour without the use of dice and luck.

For beginners, new clubs can feel overwhelming, and we understand. Miniatures and paint can be expensive, and learning the rules isn’t exactly straightforward either. Don’t worry! The war-gaming community welcomes all beginners and is more than willing to help. We provide loaner armies for your first games, host practice battles, and if it’s all too much, you can simply grasp the basics by just watching.

Two phone cases showcase the club’s “range of passions.”

So, whether you’re a seasoned veteran or a complete beginner, you’ll find a community that could stretch beyond even your college years. There are weekly sessions in S-5 after school on Thursdays. New members are always welcome, come and see!
