Macleans College Coding Club is a fun and supportive environment where students interested in all kinds of coding, technology and problem solving can join and participate. Whether you’re a total novice with absolutely no coding experience, or have a few personal projects under your belt, you will find that Coding Club has opportunities available for you.
One of the most outstanding qualities of Coding Club is its ability to cater to various levels of programming. If you’re a beginner, interested in getting into programming, the club starts with one of the most popular programming languages worldwide and probably one of the easiest for students, which is python. Members are taught the basics step by step, and help each other improve and code their programs at their own pace.
If members are interested in creating programs, then Coding Club supports them to create games and design websites using HTML, CSS. This allows members to experience building websites, small programs or even their own games, bringing ideas to reality. Memberswill also learn the skills used by people in today’s tech industries.
Coding Club members who love solving hard problems are also encouraged to compete in coding competitions, especially the popular New Zealand Informatics Competition (NZIC). This is a competition in which students solve logical and algorithm type problems under time pressure. The club provides members opportunities to train for NZIC and develop problem-solving and logical skills through enjoyable yet challenging activities.
One of the newer additions to the club resources this year is Machine Learning. This helps members understand how computers can learn from various sources, allowing members to experience something new and explore more pathways in computing. It’s quite fun!
So whether or not you want to explore new subjects like machine learning, compete against other schools with coding problems, build personal programs, or even just start learning how to code for the very first time, the coding club is a friendly and great way to expand your range of coding, technology and problem-solving skills, as well as discover like-minded people. If you are interested in trying it, it will surely be something to investigate.
