After a compelling performance during the school assembly, the Macleans College Kapa Haka group headed to Polyfest the following Tuesday. Competing in the “Te Paparewa Māori” Division 3, they performed to a supportive crowd full of excitement and anticipation.
Their phenomenal performance reflected dedication, teamwork, and countless sessions of rehearsal. The group held a Noho Kura, where students stayed overnight at school to practise routines. Additionally, they got the opportunity to strengthen connections and create lasting memories. Their commitment was clear – every minute of their performance represented four hours of practice, totalling over one hundred hours of rehearsal.
The Kapa Haka group was welcomed onto the stage by energetic cheers from the audience. Students delivered a vibrant performance, brimming with pride and enthusiasm, driven by passion. Through their harmonious voices and coordinated movements, each performer radiated joy as they performed to a sea of smiles.

Beyond their own performance, they immersed themselves in the performances of other schools, finding inspiration in their creativity and talent. As one student put it simply, “The event was so fun.” Undoubtedly, many students left with a deep appreciation of the effort and talent displayed across the festival.
The Macleans Kapa Haka group brings students together to explore Māori culture, develop teamwork, and enjoy shared performance experiences and rehearsals. The group demonstrates that hard work, driven by passion, produces performances that leave a lasting impression.
