At Macleans College, students have access to a wide range of extra-curriculars, one of them being the Rubik’s Cube Club. Every Wednesday after-school at 3:30pm, students gather together to solve cubes, socialize, and learn new techniques from one another.

Rubik’s Cube Club is one of the more relaxing and calm activities Macleans offers. The club has a relaxed setup, allowing students to go at their own pace and members time themselves on computers, race each other, and share methods to become quicker. Students can also partake in cubing competitions, gaining experience while creating a friendly and motivating environment.

Solving a Rubik’s Cube isn’t just about fun, it also strengthens the brain. Cubing helps improve many aspects such as memory, spatial awareness, and pattern recognition. Some students have even remarked that cubing helps them think more clearly and stay focused for a longer period of time. Many also noted that learning how to solve a Rubik’s Cube helps them during school, as it teaches them to stay patient and work slowly through problems. Cubing isn’t just fun, it genuinely helps the mind grow stronger.

As students practice and improve, they pick up useful habits without even realising. Working through different methods teaches them how to break big tasks into smaller steps as well as staying organised when dealing with problems. Cubing also encourages persistence, helping students remain calm even when a solve is difficult. Over time, these habits carry onto their everyday learning, helping students become more organised, and confident when facing challenging tasks.

The Macleans Rubik’s Cube Club is a welcoming space for students to improve or learn how to solve a Rubik’s Cube. Whether you’ve just started, or you’re already an experienced cuber, everyone is welcome to join after-school at Kupe Commons.
