Eight houses, one winner. This is the moment we’ve all been waiting for. The Macleans College 2026 Athletics Day Finals. After an intense battle amongst the elite athletics in preliminaries, Lloyd Elsmore was painted with a sea of rainbow on 5th of March ready to watch the finalist compete for the medals. The day began bright and early, with teachers and prefects setting up before students arrived, ensuring the events went smoothly.

Each student who stepped onto the field during the finals showed incredible athleticism and determination. Ranging from sprinting flat out down the track, to explosive spring-loaded jumps and powerful Thor-like throws, each event highlighted a different kind of strength and skill. These athletics didn’t just compete, they demonstrated the epitome of resilience, focus and remarkable skills, making the finals a thrill to watch.

This year‘s Athletics Day brought more than just the traditional events, the school introduced new events that made the day even more exciting and inclusive.

Alongside the much-anticipated house chant competition, where Hillary, our green machine secured the win home with a combination of energy, creativity, and unity. This year the school also introduced a mascot house race and a 20-people relay. When the horn was blown, instead of eight students bolting out, a dog, a bee, a kiwi, a yeti, a pink elephant, a lion, a panther, and a dragon burst onto the track, instantly lifting the energy of the crowd.

“The mascot race was the most enjoyable event during the whole athletics day final, and they should definitely do it again every year.”

Following this, the 20-people relay brought a different kind of excitement to the field. As each house revealed their hidden stars as batons are smoothly and rapidly passed down with each student. The relay not only showcased brilliant team-work but also the undying spirit and loyalty from each house. Overall, making this year’s Athletics day more memorable and engaging.

On the sidelines, students cheered loudly for their friends and house, creating an atmosphere full of energy and support throughout the day. Beyond the competition, athletics day is about creating memories with your friends, sharing laughter and showing house pride.
“Athletics day was amazing, yapping away with friends while watching the houses compete in their chants and races created some great memorises”
