On Friday the 5th of April, students that were gathered around the front of Te Kanawa House were greeted with baked goods that were provided by students hailing from different year levels. This included cakes, muffins and cookies. The stall was also completely run and operated by student volunteers.
All proceeds continue to go towards their house charity the Child Cancer Foundation, which supports children facing cancer diagnoses in New Zealand as well as their families. This support involves providing counseling, financial aid, groceries and bereavement support.
One in three Kiwi families are impacted by cancer every week. The Child Cancer Foundation supports the children and families on their cancer journey, focusing more on the whanāu than the disease so that they can give their most towards caring for their child.
As one of the cornerstones of Macleans, it is important to remember the importance of empathy, giving back, respect and service towards our communities.
