On Thursday 15th May, Macleans College was transformed into a sea of pink – as students adorned their boldest, pinkest pieces to mark Pink Shirt Day 2025. The day was dedicated to standing up against bullying and promoting kindness, and to support the cause, students were encouraged to wear pink and bring a gold coin donation, with all proceeds going towards a worthy cause.

The day was packed with never ending excitement as lunch-time in the amphitheatre marked a number of fun events. Including a bake sale, offering a bunch of pink-themed foods. As well as the much anticipated ‘ice bucket challenge’, where students were given the chance to fill their desires by dunking head prefects and teachers alike with buckets of water, all in the name of awareness.

But at the heart of Pink Shirt Day was a key message: Kōrero Mai, Kōrero Atu, Mauri Tū, Mauri Ora – Speak Up, Stand Together, Stop Bullying!. This whakataukī reminds us all of the importance of standing up for not only ourselves, but for others. As by fostering a sense of solidarity, we help create an environment where everyone feels safe and valued.

The day was a success, with students and staff alike showing a collectivist effort in support. Pink Shirt Day was not just about wearing pink, but about sending the message that bullying has no place in our community.
