On Tuesday, 8th April 2025, the Macleans College amphitheatre was transformed into a vibrant hub of sights, sounds and smells as the annual Intercultural Food Festival returned for yet another successful year. Organised by the Intercultural Committee (ICC), this highly anticipated event brought together the school’s diverse student body through a shared celebration of culture, heritage and, of course, food.

The event coincided with an intercultural mufti day, encouraging students to wear traditional cultural attire. Students proudly donned hanboks, hanfu, kurtas, saris and other garments representing their heritage. For a $2 coin donation, students not only expressed their identity through fashion, but also contributed to a meaningful cause, as all proceeds from the day will go towards Third Culture Minds, a charitable organisation supporting multicultural youth mental health and wellbeing.

As always, the true stars of the event were the mouth-watering dishes on offer. Students were treated to a variety of culinary delights from around the world, including Mango Lassi, Milk Tea, Tanghulu, Tteokbokki, and much more. Each stall, run by different ICC clubs, represented the flavours and traditions of cultures across the world. The fusion of aromas and flavours filled the air, making the amphitheatre a melting pot of global cuisine and shared joy.

Additionally, returning for a second year was the ever-popular K-pop Random Dance Play. Kicking off from the Hillary side of the amphitheatre, students gathered to show off their dance moves and cheer on friends. The event added an energetic prelude to Tuesday’s festivities and highlighted the intersection between food, music, and modern cultural identity.

But beyond just food, the festival served as a celebration of heritage and community. With music playing, students mingling, and vibrant outfits on full display, the event was a living expression of what it means to belong in a multicultural village like Macleans.

A massive thank you goes out to the Intercultural Committee Executives, club volunteers and Mrs Hoshino for their efforts in organising this incredible event. The 2025 Intercultural Food Festival was more than just a feast – it was a celebration of Macleans’ vibrant cultural landscape.
