Athletics finals at Macleans is a high energy event held at Lloyd Elsmore Track park every year. This year, on the 20th of February, every single student in Macleans piled into the buses chartered to the track park where an almost rainbow-like assortment of houses flooded the grass. The day kicked off super early with prefects setting up for all the students, and track events already beginning before student arrivals.

At Athletics, there are always a massive range of events happening such as javelin, shot put, discus, high jump and long jump. However, track events such the four-hundred and eight-hundred metres caught the attention of the students the most. Students cheered, clapped, and lost their voices in support of their fellow house members.

Although the event was mainly focused on sports and athleticism, Macleans never fails to show its house pride and integrity. Every year at Athletics Finals, there is a house chant competition judged by the Head Prefects.
Each house had a fierce chant, and ultimately the winner was Snell House!

2nd: Kupe House
3rd: Hillary House
After most of the track events were finished, the day was wrapped up with an extremely entertaining Prefects Versus Staff relay race. Even though the teachers had a great start, the prefects ultimately won the relay.
Athletics Finals was an energetic day with lots of screaming and cheering, filled with friends and foes (from other houses) alike.
