On Tuesday, 11th February, Macleans College held its highly anticipated annual Athletics Day, where students across all year levels showcased their athletic prowess and fierce house spirit while also taking a well-deserved break from classes. Students from all years and houses battled it out in a range of events, aiming to secure crucial points for their whanau.

With the boys stationed on the far field and the girls competing on the main field, the day was filled with both competition and an atmosphere of enthusiasm. The boys took part in mostly throwing events for the day, showcasing impressive throws and strength in discus, javelin, and shot put, as well as the fast-paced 200m sprint. Meanwhile, the girls dominated speed and agility in the 100m and 800m races, along with the high jump and long jump competitions, demonstrating remarkable endurance and explosive speed, where many exceeded expectations with outstanding performances.

The atmosphere was filled with encouragement as students pushed themselves to their limits, with some unexpected talents emerging throughout the day. Finalists from each event will advance to the finals, taking place in Lloyd Elsmore the following Thursday where they will have the opportunity to battle it out for the title of athletics champion.

Beyond the competition, whether or not you were a competitive sportsperson, the day certainly fostered a sense of comradeship and house pride, with students cheering on their peers with unwavering enthusiasm. The event was a perfect blend of competitive spirit and school unity.

A special thank you goes out to all the staff who organised the event and ensured that everything ran smoothly. Congratulations to all the finalists, and best of luck in the upcoming finals.
