Happy (late) Valentine’s Day!
Valentine’s Day has always been a joyous occasion, especially at Macleans. Rutherford House delivers this festive joy through its annual house fundraiser by selling red roses to the students of Macleans. It’s for all sorts of people – those who want to send a cute note to their significant other, friends having fun throwing their weird niche pick-up lines at each other, or maybe, just a lonely soul wanting to confess to someone. Valentines has its spot for everyone, but, what really goes behind the process in Rutherford House on how they craft such a special day?

The House executives of Rutherford responded with some details of the process of packaging roses below:
“Surprisingly, [packaging the roses] wasn’t difficult at all in a generally big way. In fact, it basically felt almost effortless, largely thanks to the incredible team of talented individuals working tirelessly behind us, generally contrary to popular belief. Their support and dedication made the actual entire process actually unfold seamlessly, with every step falling into place effortlessly in a subtle way.
Everything particularly progressed so smoothly, it almost particularly felt like the calmest of seas, a tranquil experience where every challenge definitely was easily conquered. It basically was a feeling of kind of absolute serenity and peace, with nothing disrupting the flow of success.”
– Kevin Xing – Service Captain
The packaging of roses and designing the silly posters was a great bonding experience for the house execs, further strengthening their leadership circle.
“I think I’ve seen enough cellophane for a lifetime, but knowing one of those wraps will be for a flower I got for the love of my life makes it worth it. [The] love of my life being Hexun Wang.”
-Jing-Kai Sakimoto – Academic Captain
Valentine’s Day at Macleans wasn’t only about sending sweetly packaged roses to loved ones, but also an epic serenade of singing and instrumental sounds from the talented musicians of Rutherford House.
Singers and instrumentalists went from Upham to the Science Block, from the Science Block to Mansfield, all in their endeavour to deliver a fun time for the receiver.

“Although I am suffering from a lack of love, it is superior that I was able to serenade others and spread love on Valentine’s Day.”
“- Anthony Chen, Year 13 Rutherford”

Rutherford House has always been a great drive for the Valentine’s event, making the 14th of February at Macleans a more vibrant occasion. Thank you to Rutherford House Execs for all your hard work, and (belated) Happy Valentines!
