During the King’s Birthday weekend, a group of 11 students, including the winning Shakespeare Festival team from the Auckland regional competition, travelled to Wellington to attend the national SGCNZ University of Otago Sheilah Winn Shakespeare Festival.
The festival had various events occurring at various venues. Workshops were held at Wellington East Girls’ College, performances were held at the St James Theatre, and final words and speeches were held at the Banquet Hall in Parliament.
The team representing Macleans College performed on Sunday, 4th June, presenting their five-minute student-directed performance of A Midsummer Night’s Dream, Act III.ii (Act 3, Scene 2). You can read the article about the regional festival, which allowed the team to perform in Wellington, here.
Going to Wellington was an unreal experience. I would never have expected to meet so many new people—making friends with other actors was so easy and comfortable. We all instantly connected and made conversation, which was amazing!
Liliana Relf, member of the Macleans ‘A Midsummer Night’s Dream‘ team
Relf left a message for her team, saying, “And I can’t forget my incredible group. So much time, effort, and rehearsals had gone into our performance and I am so proud of how far we got.”
While the team did not win any awards for their performance, they did draw some gasps and awe over their stunning costumes.
Congratulations to the Macleans students performing at the event and many thanks to the teachers, Mrs Juliet Hunt and Miss Amanda Burnett, for accompanying the students on this event.
